Many people dream of writing a book - but how do you make that dream a reality?
In this 90 minute live online workshop, I will take you through the steps needed to create a stand-out non-fiction book proposal.
A book proposal is so much more than a synopsis. It’s a business plan for your book and where you’ll passionately make your case for why it should exist in the world.
What we’ll cover in the 90-minute workshop
A detailed look at should be included in a proposal so you can confidently tackle each section
Understanding your book inside and out, so that any agent or editor reading the proposal will instantly be able to picture your book
Understanding the audience and market for your book, so that you can show there is a need for your big ideas to be out in the world
A series of exercises to help you get to the heart of what your book is really about
A chance to ask specific questions about your project

FAQ
Is this workshop right for me?
This workshop is suitable for all kinds of non-fiction writers including those who just have a vague idea about what their book is going to be about (or perhaps have too many ideas!) all the way through to those who have a first draft of their proposal and who want to refine and redraft their work. It’s also suitable for memoir writers who have a finished manuscript and would like to write a proposal for submission.
Do I need to attend live?
It’s better if you can attend live, as you’ll get the chance to pick my brains about any specific questions you have. But the recording will be made available to anyone who purchases a ticket, so if something prevents you from attending live, you won’t miss out. The recording will only be available to those who book tickets in advance.
What do I need to attend?
Access to Zoom, a notebook and a pen.
I’m not sure I’m ready to start work on my proposal - will you be running this workshop again?
I’ll only be running this workshop three times per year. If you’d like to hear about later dates, make sure you sign up to my newsletter to be the first to hear as I release them.
I think I’d like to get more help on my proposal….. Is it worth me attending the workshop?
If you are on the fence about getting one to one support (via a Book Brainstorm or Book Coaching) or if you are planning to join the Book Proposal Group Program, then the workshop is a great place to start. You’ll get lots of knowledge and it’s a chance to see how I work. If any of the workshop attendees want to book one of my one-to-one programs after the workshop, I will deduct the cost of the workshop. So if you go on to book a session or group program with me - the workshop will be free!
Will I get feedback on my proposal idea?
I won’t be giving any written feedback on proposals in the workshop but there will be an opportunity to ask specific questions. If after attending the workshop you’d like to get written feedback, you can book a Book Brainstorm (the cost of the workshop will be deducted from this session). This is a great way to get individual feedback on your draft proposal if you don’t need on going support. Written feedback is also given on the Book Proposal Group Program.
About Penny
Penny is a Melbourne born, London dwelling, author and non-fiction book coach. After 15 years as a freelance interiors photographer, Penny began writing about life as a single parent and unpaid carer whilst juggling a freelance creative career. She has written for Red Magazine, iPaper, BBC Radio 4 and The Telegraph amongst many others. Penny’s first book Tender was published by Coronet Books in 2020. Her next book Home Matters will be published July 2024. She's a certified non-fiction and memoir book coach with Author Accelerator, has an MA in Creative and Life Writing with Distinction from Goldsmiths and hosts the podcast Not Too Busy To Write.
